Top 5 Most Popular Air Purifier Technologies
Air purifiers are now becoming common place in both the home and office. Allergy and asthma sufferers rely on them to help them breath easy. If you are looking to buy one, then the array of technology can at first be confusing.
We reviewed the most popular air purifier technologies so you can find the purifier that is perfect for your household.
An air air purifier works by cleaning the air of pollutants from the air in a home or workplace. We have reviewed the top 5 important air purifiers:
1. UVGI (Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation) uses UV radiation to kill germs and mold using light waves. The problem with UVGI is that in most cases the amount of UV radiation required to remove mold and bacteria is very high so they are not very efficient.
2. High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters trap particulate matter efficiently (99% of all 0.3 micrometer particles can be trapped as well as a significant portion of smaller particles). The efficiency of HEPA filters is maximized when air is unable to circulate around the filter. This means airtight rooms that ventilate through specified ducts, which is not the case of most homes.
3. Activated carbon is used to adsorb volatile chemicals at the molecular level. However, its efficiency is disputed since the adsorption process stops when the activated carbon reaches equilibrium with the atmosphere. Thus, not all chemicals are removed and chemicals can be released back into the air if there are more of them in the filter.
4. One of the best things about Ionizer purifiers is that they don't use a polymer filter like the HEPA air purifiers. The way that a Ionizer purifiers works is by using ions to charge the surrounding air and then using a plate that is oppositely charged to pull away any pollutant compounds. Ionic based purifiers are very quiet in operation when compared with HEPA technology. Removing very tiny particles is very easy with Ionization purifiers but have problems when trying to remove germs and bacteria.
