A 1/1.

That is, unless you want to loosen the restrictions on 1/1.  Is there anything out there more annoying than an overzealous ebay seller? Guys know that collectors will search for 1/1s. So, sellers find “clever” uses for 1/1 so their auctions show up in searches. Or, the guy who takes 1/1 to a whole new level. Look, it’s #ed 79/100. “If you add his homeruns and RBIs, and subtract his strikeouts…IT EQUALS 79, SO THIS IS A TRUE 1/1!”  While searching for some higher-end Crawford today, I came across a card that looks like it was made by god herself.

IT’S BEAUTIFUL…and expensive. I want this card. I need this card….but, I also like to have groceries…and a wife. So, for now I’ll just have to oogle through the window. However…there are 199 of these puppies out there. Don’t call it a 1/1. Granted, some collectors probably like getting the first of the print run (I don’t , but some of you wackos do…right?)…but, calling this a 1/1 is just silly.

What makes this auction even more funny is his math. On what planet is 1/199 = 1/? I’ll give this guy 1/199 of a million dollars if he gives me 1/1 million dollars.

Now, being a man of science…I had to do a little research. I would have drawn up some blueprints…because that’s what scientists do, but, this is a blog. I’m going to do an ebay search of 1/1. I will narrow my results by just searching in the Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop category, and I will take the first 25 results. Kids , you can play along at home . Any guesses on how many actual 1/1’s there will be? I’m going to hypothesize (My experiment, my hypothesis) that there will be 6 true 1/1s . The rest will be people who are trying to capitalize on the consumer’s demand for cards #’ed 1/1.
