This is a pretty big entry. I doubt you’ll want to really read it all. I just wanted to post this because this weekend actually felt good, and didn’t feel like I was trying to draw blood from a stone in a creative and productive sense.

Over the last 4 years of living in Brisbane the absolute best times have been when I’ve been out of Brisbane. Playing shows with whatever failband I was in at the time, or travelling with other bands. I have been able to do some musical travelling, but not a huge amount or anything extensive (Each major city down the East Coast at least once, though) because I had a few bands fall to shit pretty quickly. But having said that, it’s pretty much a constant thing on my mind and now with the band I’m playing in, Marathon feeling solid and feeling like we actually have some goals that might work out (I love Ryan, Matt and Craig). I hopefully will be able to do more and actually see the results when returning to the same places with the same band, rather than playing the same cities over and over again in different bands. I’m at my happiest when I’m driving places with friends and organising little details of the shows on the go, meeting new people, playing little rooms and opening and closing a money tin with barely any money in it whilst living in and out of vans/cars.

Marathon organised a little Canberra/Melbourne weekend for the end of March. Our EP, “Never Safe” should be out in June but we wanted to put together a little demo with two of the EP tracks and print some shirts and just get the ball rolling with some interstate shows. It ended up being heaps of fun, and hopefully next time we visit all the same friends we made will be there, as well as some new faces.

Friday, 26th of March.

The plan for the weekend was just a flight to Canberra, drive to Melbourne on the saturday in a rental car and fly home after the Melbourne shows. So we’re up hell early for our 8am flight. We arrive in Canberra and some friends are still at work, getting tattooed or running around whilst loved ones get minor surgery. So we just hang out in a nice park in the city area. Before that we went and visited the National War Memorial/Museum place and it’s pretty rough. Say what you want about war in 2010, seeing this place and reading a lot of the stories kind of makes you shut your mouth and think a bit. World War 1 and 2 still had people with power brainwashing countless amounts of people, but comparing that to the present with our mass media/scare tactics and the world’s general ability to make Joey Paythebills feel like Terrorist emos who are addicted to excstacy are moshing up his backsteps to kill him and his family, it made me feel like the whole context of conflict back then was just something I’ll never really get to understand. I wish I had a time machine. Or maybe I don’t.
