Day 12 ā The Great Ocean Road part 1
Today we checked out of the Australian Club, and headed to pick up the hire car from Hertz. We opted to upgrade to a RAV4, so we could be seated a bit higher and see over hedges etc on our tour.
Before heading to the Great Ocean Road, there was one place I needed to visit in the Melbourne suburbs (Fiona came along reluctantly!). Iām not allowed to mention the name on the blog, so youāll have to look at the picturesā¦!
After this, we headed to the Bellarine Peninsular (which is before the Great Ocean Road), as it had a good write up in the guidebook. A great lunch at a vineyard we stumbled upon. Then back in the car and drove via Portarlington, the amusingly named āIndented Headā, St Leonards, Queenscliff, Barwon Heads (stopping to view Fionaās TV Mecca āSea Changeā ā see photo), and finally joining the Great Ocean Road at Torquay. And then it started rainingā¦!
By this time, it was turned 4pm, so we decided to push on to our accommodation at Apollo Bay (viewing the sights through the rain). We checked in to āA Room with a Viewā ā and it certainly has. A quick dinner at the Apollo Bay hotel, and back for an early night and a viewing of āThe Castleā. Tomorrow we have an early start. We hope for better weather, so that we can back-track to Lorne and visit some of the sites along the way, before heading to Port Campbell and The Twelve Apostles.
Hello from Winchester. So pleased you are having such a wonderful holiday. There have been so many highlights. The bridge climb and The Bay of Fires walk looked fantastic. Glad you were able to meet so many of the family but it is a pity James is over here at the moment. You have certainly packed so much into your days you will probably need a holiday on your return.
We have had a lovely day today ,thank you for your card. Fiona and Craig were here and we went to Keats and had a really super lunch. I am meeting Janet Green for lunch tomorrow and then we are off to Broadway on Tuesday morning and returning on Saturday so we should have much to read on our return. Should catch up on Fraser Island.
