Spring Break

This post is going to get me in big trouble. That is, unless I have very understanding friends in Utah. This post is about a quick trip we took to Utah last week. To those of you that I missed visiting on this trip: I’ll be back! Don't be mad at me! We're planning another trip to Utah very soon. (I won't say when, for the sake of any lurking burglars.) The back story: the Air Force Academy has 2 weeks off for Spring Break. Doug planned to use those 2 weeks to attend a professional conference in Los Angeles and to do research in the area. He found out just days before his conference that his research wouldn't be possible. So he suggested we use those days to go to Utah instead. I've been doing a lot of family history work lately and have needed to visit the Family History Library in Salt Lake for months now. So as repayment to me for manning the kids by myself for a week while Doug attended the conference, I got a family history research trip and a family visit. This was a last-minute and quick trip, so I wasn't able to visit anyone but family. Next time for sure! We had a rocky start to our trip. I loaded up our car and left our house at 10 AM to pick up Doug at the Denver Airport. We then continued northwest toward Utah. We got as far as Fort Collins and learned that I-80 was closed at Laramie. We were hours from home and didn't want to turn back. So we pushed on. The weather got worse and worse the closer we got to Laramie. Blizzard conditions and no snow removal. (Colorado seems to have something against taking snow off its streets.) Once at Laramie, we saw the ROAD CLOSED sign across I-80 and the long line of trucks with their noses pointed toward the sign, just waiting for it to open. All weather reports indicated that this storm was going to get worse. So we got a hotel room and waited. Does this sound familiar? (Remember THIS post?)
