Top 10 Best Cars
Here it is, the final ten! It took me long enough but it’s done and it’s glorious, filled with exotic metal, classics, and outrageously priced four wheel contraptions. If you think I missed out on anything feel free to comment on this list. And so it begins with:
10. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition Lets begin with the numbers: a 5.4l supercharged V8 producing 640hp and 600 lb/ft of torque. Top speed is no less than 210 mph. With those kind of figures, I don’t even need to tell you it’s fast, 60 mph is over in just 3.6 seconds. It has a carbon fiber monocoque construction and some serious computers to help you keep all that grunt under control. With power and torque like this, you’re spinning the planet under you rather than driving around it. The front end comes to a point with an F1 inspired nose, the entire body streaming away from it to the back. The true magic of this car is its “Mercedes-ness”. It is an incredible Grand Tourer. It may just be the ultimate in its category, being ludicrously fast, incredibly comfortable, fantastically luxurious and uncannily reliable. It manages to be quiet and civilized at low speeds, but loud and obnoxious when you use the right pedal generously. At a price of over $550 000, I would expect no less.
9. Ford GT40 Not to be mistaken with the modern day Ford GT, this mid sixties monster is an American idol. Production started in 1965, when Henry Ford II was metaphorically slapped in the face by Enzo Ferrari. Ford had spent millions in negotiations with Ferrari to collaborate in future racing efforts. Nearing the end of negotiations, Enzo cut off the deal, making Ford’s expenses and efforts meaningless, when the italian found out he would still not be allowed to participate in NASCAR series races. Ford immediately ordered the motorsports department to begin work on a “Ferrari Beater” for the 24 Hours of LeMans. Apparently, this wasn’t in vain, because the 40 inch tall car, powered by a 7.0l V8, broke Ferrari’s six win streak taking first place four times in a row. Considered a classic, they can be priced at over $300 000.
